Game Recap

The Jaguars fell to the De Smet Spartans in their final game of the season but they should not hang their heads long considering the amount of success they had throughout the season. Blake Horning pitched well enough to keep the Jaguars in the game but the Jaguars bats stayed quiet for most of the game. The Jaguars finished off a successful season with an overall record of 18-9 and finished 6-3 in conference play. Many things went well for the JV squad over the season and this group showed a lot of effort and pride on their way to an eighteen win season. Every player contributed during the season and as a whole everyone made a significant effort to get better and represent Seckman High School in a positive way. The Jaguars were lead on the mound by Blake Horning who went 6-1 and struck out 46 batters to go along with his .313 average at the plate. Blake will go on to help the varsity during districts. Jake Waeltermann will also lend a helping hand to the varsity next week as he ended up with three wins on the mound and had a team high .364 average at the plate with seven doubles and a team high 21 RBI’s. Cameron Cummings helped both on the mound with two wins and 32 strikeouts as will as playing a very good center field. Cummings batted .345 and had 17 runs batted in. Nate Robinson played a great first base for the Jaguars and hit .350 on the year driving in 15 runs. Steven Reando lead the team with 8 doubles and drove in 18 runs, most of them very important runs, playing a very good third base in the process. Michael Beattie was the Jaguars backstop as he and ended up hitting .344 on the year. Clayton Busken had a great year at shortstop and had 18 RBI’s and 17 runs scored to go along with his .290 average. Drew Maloney played a reliable right field and ended his year with two hits in the final game to push his average to .340. Cole Hardy was very good at second base this season and ended with a .311 average and tied the team lead with runs scored at 22. Jordan Clooney played a very important role on this Jaguar team and was a stout catcher as well as the team’s closer. Clooney’s fastball was intimidating as he had a big win and save on the mound this year. Donovan Summers finished his year with a .333 average and had a big complete game win in the final week of the season as well as a win against Festus earlier in the year. Grant Strickland had a complete game win against Northwest and a huge save against the district rival Fox. Lucas Erdman was a big relief for the Jaguars as he was used in many big game situations going 3-0 and having one save as he picked up the win against Fox. Zack Blunt was used on the bases all season for the Jaguars and played a very good shortstop as well. Adam Race had the big triple against Windsor and played a very good outfield. Mason Ambrose single handedly beat Oakville with his plays at third base. Chris Perkins helped in anyway that he possibly could after suffering an injury midway through the season and Matt Kruas had some very good at bats hitting .400 and playing a very good second base when he was called on. Overall it was a great season for the JV Jaguars and they have much to be proud of as they move onto their varsity careers. Key moments in the season include a come from behind victory over Fox that included a two out double from Jake Waeltermann to tie the game. Blake Horning’s 8 inning complete game against Parkway West. Two big triples in the same inning from Lucas Erdman and Adam Race. The Jaguars came back from being down seven runs at Festus to win as Summers got the victory and Clooney the save. The Jaguars also pummeled two teams to win the North County Tournament. These Jaguars showed a great resiliency the entire year and they were a fantastic group to be around. Thanks fellas for a great season and make sure that you always know that “We Gonna Be Alright.”
