Game Recap

The Jaguars fell to the De Smet Spartans in their final game of the season but they should not hang their heads long considering the amount of success they had throughout the season. Blake Horning pitched well enough to keep the Jaguars in the game but the Jaguars bats stayed quiet for most of the game. The Jaguars finished off a successful season with an overall record of 18-9 and finished 6-3 in conference play. Many things went well for the JV squad over the season and this group showed a lot of effort and pride on their way to an eighteen win season. Every player contributed during the season and as a whole everyone made a significant effort to get better and represent Seckman High School in a positive way. The Jaguars were lead on the mound by Blake Horning who went 6-1 and struck out 46 batters to go along with his .313 average at the plate. Blake will go on to help the varsity during districts. Jake Waeltermann will also lend a helping hand to the varsity next week as he ended up with three wins on the mound and had a team high .364 average at the plate with seven doubles and a team high 21 RBI’s. Cameron Cummings helped both on the mound with two wins and 32 strikeouts as will as playing a very good center field. Cummings batted .345 and had 17 runs batted in. Nate Robinson played a great first base for the Jaguars and hit .350 on the year driving in 15 runs. Steven Reando lead the team with 8 doubles and drove in 18 runs, most of them very important runs, playing a very good third base in the process. Michael Beattie was the Jaguars backstop as he and ended up hitting .344 on the year. Clayton Busken had a great year at shortstop and had 18 RBI’s and 17 runs scored to go along with his .290 average. Drew Maloney played a reliable right field and ended his year with two hits in the final game to push his average to .340. Cole Hardy was very good at second base this season and ended with a .311 average and tied the team lead with runs scored at 22. Jordan Clooney played a very important role on this Jaguar team and was a stout catcher as well as the team’s closer. Clooney’s fastball was intimidating as he had a big win and save on the mound this year. Donovan Summers finished his year with a .333 average and had a big complete game win in the final week of the season as well as a win against Festus earlier in the year. Grant Strickland had a complete game win against Northwest and a huge save against the district rival Fox. Lucas Erdman was a big relief for the Jaguars as he was used in many big game situations going 3-0 and having one save as he picked up the win against Fox. Zack Blunt was used on the bases all season for the Jaguars and played a very good shortstop as well. Adam Race had the big triple against Windsor and played a very good outfield. Mason Ambrose single handedly beat Oakville with his plays at third base. Chris Perkins helped in anyway that he possibly could after suffering an injury midway through the season and Matt Kruas had some very good at bats hitting .400 and playing a very good second base when he was called on. Overall it was a great season for the JV Jaguars and they have much to be proud of as they move onto their varsity careers. Key moments in the season include a come from behind victory over Fox that included a two out double from Jake Waeltermann to tie the game. Blake Horning’s 8 inning complete game against Parkway West. Two big triples in the same inning from Lucas Erdman and Adam Race. The Jaguars came back from being down seven runs at Festus to win as Summers got the victory and Clooney the save. The Jaguars also pummeled two teams to win the North County Tournament. These Jaguars showed a great resiliency the entire year and they were a fantastic group to be around. Thanks fellas for a great season and make sure that you always know that “We Gonna Be Alright.”

Game Recap

After jousting with the Knights two other times this year the Jaguars made the third time a charm as Jake Waeltermann knocked the Knights off their high horse with a complete game blow to the armor striking out nine and improving his win total to three as he overwhelmed Farmington all evening and ended the Knights season on a losing note. Cameron Cummings got things started in the first inning by reaching on an error and was later driven in by Blake Horning (2-3, 3 RBI’s, 2 Runs, SB). Waeltermann helped himself by driving in Horning on a single. Stephen Reando reached on a fielder’s choice and was driven in by a Drew Maloney base hit. The Jaguars picked up another run in the second inning as Clayton Busken reached on an error and Cummings drove him in on a fielder’s choice. The JV Jaguars picked up two more runs in the fourth inning as Cummings reached on a base hit and stole second base. Blake Horning walked on a wild pitch and on heads up play took second base, Cummings took home on the throw down to second base and Horning advanced to third on the wild throw. Horning would then score on a wild pitch. Seckman added three runs in the fifth inning as Reando lead off with a walk and Maloney reached on a fielder’s choice. Maloney stole second base and a later scored when Cole Hardy walked with the bases loaded. Clayton Busken was responsible for loading the bases with a perfectly placed bunt down the third base line. Blake Horning dealt the Knights the final blow with a single up the middle plating Busken and Hardy rounding out the scoring for the Jaguars. The Jaguars threatened in the seventh as Grant Strickland lead off the inning with a base hit up the middle and Donavan Summers followed with a hit of his own. Zack Blunt loaded the bases with a walk and Matt Kraus hit a fly ball to center that landed just outside of the infield and Strickland was cut down at the plate on a force out. Summers was then tagged out on an aggressive play ending the threat. Waeltermann then mowed down the Knights in the seventh inning as the Jaguars improved to 18-8 overall. The Jaguars are hoping to put an exclamation point on the season today as they are scheduled to travel to De Smet to take on the Spartans at 4:15 to conclude the JV schedule.

Game Recap

With summer break fast approaching the JV Jaguars called on their own Summers to take the ball against the Parkway South Patriots. Making his first start of the season all Donovan Summers (2-0) did was throw a complete game gem to give the Jaguars a big win to close out their conference schedule in exciting fashion. After allowing three runs in the first inning Summers settled in and controlled the Patriots bats by keeping them off balance with his fastball and big looping breaking ball. The Jaguar defense was stout in the field and made sure that they had Summers back the entire game with Clayton Busken making all the routine plays along with a great backhand grab in the hole to just get the runner at first in the fourth. The Jaguars got on the board in the first inning as Cameron Cummings lead off the game with a walk and scored on a fielder’s choice by Nate Robinson. Mike Beattie and Jake Waelterman each picked up hits in the inning but were stranded on the bases. The JV Jaguars picked up the go ahead runs in the fourth inning as Nate Robinson singled and scored on a base hit by Blake Horning (2-3, 2 RBI’s, 2 Runs). Steven Reando scored on a fielder’s choice by Clayton Busken who later scored on a sacrifice fly by Cole Hardy. The Jaguars would add two more funs in the sixth inning as Reando smacked a double over the left fielder’s head. Zack Blunt came into run for Reando and scored on a double by Horning and Busken rounded out the scoring by plating Horning on another fielder’s choice. It was another overall team effort from the JV Jaguars who seem to find a way to come back and stay in games even if they go down early. This team shows a resiliency and a fight that has become part of their identity. The Jaguars improved to 17-8 overall and they rounded out their conference schedule with a respectable 6-3 record. The JV squad will be back in action and looking for a little revenge against Farmington as the Knights took two from the Jaguars earlier in the year. Seckman will host the Knights on Monday at 4:30.

Game Recap

“I’m goin’ to Jackson, I’m gonna mess around, Yeah I’m goin’ to Jackson, Look out Jackson town.” Johnny Cash sang it and the Jaguars lived it as they went to Jackson and “messed around” gaining a back and forth win at Jackson City Park on a beautiful day for baseball. Grant Strickland pitched four effective innings keeping the Jaguars in the game. Lucas Erdman entered in the fifth inning and after an eventful fifth inning that allowed the Jackson Fighting Indians to take the lead Erdman settled down in the sixth to gain the win. Jordan Clooney picked up his second save of the season by retiring the Fighting Indians in order to end the game. The Jaguars got on the board in the second inning as Jordan Clooney (2-4, 2 RBI’s, 2 SB) lead off the inning with a single and stole second base. Clooney also was credited with a steal of home as the umpire lost track of the count and awarded Cameron Cummings a walk on a 3-2 count. Clooney trotted into home and scored in the confusion as the Jaguars took a 1-0 lead. Clayton Busken was walked and Cole Hardy (3-3, 2 RBI’s) reached on a base hit. After his premature walk Cummings drove in two runs with a base hit. The Jaguars got back on the board in the fifth inning as Steven Reando lead off the inning with a walk and was move over to third base on a double by Jake Waelterman. Reando scored on a base hit by Nate Robinson (3-4, RBI, 2 Runs). Waelterman scored on a bases loaded walk to Busken and Cole Hardy greeted a new pitcher by plating two runners with a single up the middle. The JV Jaguars tied up the score in the sixth inning as Mike Beattie lead off the inning with a base hit and later scored along with Robinson on a game tying double by Clooney. The Jaguars went ahead for good in the seventh as Drew Maloney lead off the inning with a single. Clayton Busken reached on a fielder’s choice and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Hardy was hit by a pitch and Cummings was walked. Hardy and Busken both scored as Reando and Waelterman both walked to give the Jaguars and Clooney a two run cushion in the bottom half of the inning. The JV squad improved their record to 16-8 overall and will host Parkway South at 4:15 in their final conference game of the season.

Game Recap

For second consecutive game the Jaguars came up one run short as they fell to the Eureka Wildcats leaving the go ahead run on second base in the sixth inning for the second time in as many games. The Jaguars received another good game on the mound as Jake Waelterman pitched six innings striking out a couple of batters and giving the Jaguars a chance to win. Donovan Summers pitched an effective seventh inning but the Jaguars could not break through in the seventh as they were retired in order. The JV Jaguars got on the board in the third inning as Cole Hardy drew a lead-off walk and Drew Maloney reached on a fielder’s choice. Hardy scored on a sac fly by Nate Robinson and Maloney scored on a single by Jake Waelterman. Seckman threatened to go ahead in the sixth inning but came up just short as the potential tying run was cut down at the plate. Waelterman got things started with a one out walk. Blake Horning who was running for Waelterman came around to score on a base hit by Jordan Clooney cutting the deficit to one and leaving runners at first and second. Matt Kraus who was pinch running for Steven Reando took third on a passed ball and Adam Race who was running for Clooney took second. Lucas Erdman lofted what looked to be a game tying sac fly to center but the center fielder made a perfect catch and throw to cut down Matt Kraus at the plate. It was another strong effort by the JV Jaguars as their record fell to 15-8 overall and 5-3 in conference play. The Jaguars continue their busy week by traveling to Jackson to face off against the Indians at 4:30. Blake Horning will get a promotion tonight as he will take the ball for the varsity squad in hopes in getting a big win in his first varsity start.

Game Recap

In a hard fought battle between conference foes the Marquette Mustangs took down the Seckman Jaguars in a pitchers duel that that featured only six hits between the two clubs. Cameron Cummings had a great day on the mound and despite a few miscues in the field he gave the Jaguars the opportunity to compete until the end. Cummings struck out three and effectively used his fastball and curveball to keep hitters off balance all evening. It took the Jaguars until the sixth inning to finally put some pressure on the Mustang’s hurler as Matt Kraus lead off the inning with a pinch hit single up the middle. Cummings followed with a single of his own and Michael Beattie loaded the bases by getting hit by a pitch. Krause scored on a walk issued to Nate Robinson and Cummings rounded out the scoring on an aggressive play tagging up on a foul ball down the right field line hit by Steven Reando. Cummings tagged up on the play as the first baseman’s back was to the field. The bang bang play at the plate allowed Adam Race who was running for Beattie to advance to third and Robinson to advance to second. Robinson became the go ahead run but was stranded at second to end the rally. Lucas Erdman pitched an efficient seventh inning striking out one to give the JV squad a chance in the seventh but the Jaguars went down in order to end the game. It was another strong effort from the Jaguars as their record fell to 15-7 overall and 5-2 in conference play. The JV Jaguars will get a chance to right the ship as they welcome the Eureka Wildcats to Seckman today at 4:15.
