Game Recap

By the time the Mehlville coaching staff was done dragging the field the Jaguar hitters decided to provide the rakes as they pounded the Panthers 11-1 in five innings. It was another great day on the mound by Blake Horning as he improved to a perfect 6-0 on the season mowing down six on strikeouts. Jordan Clooney pitched the last inning striking out the first batter he faced and easily retiring the last two batters to complete the win. Cameron Cummings started the game off with a base hit up the middle and promptly stole second base. Cummings advanced to third on a passed ball and was brought home by a sacrifice fly by Nate Robinson (1-2, 2 Runs, RBI). Steven Reando (3-4, 4 RBI’s, Run) got the action started in the second inning with a leadoff double and advanced to third on an error. Reando was driven in by Drew Maloney on a fielder’s choice. Donovan Summers laced a ball over the left fielder’s head for an opposite field double and was driven in by Clayton Busken’s (2-2, 2 RBI’s) single. Nate Robinson got things rolling in the third inning with a double and scored on a sacrifice fly from Maloney. Jake Waelterman reached on a walk and was driven in by Busken. Mike Beattie reached on a single to start the fourth inning and Jake Waelterman was walked as both were driven in on a double by Reando. The fifth inning proved to be the nail in the coffin for the Panthers as the Jaguars added four runs to give them a ten run advantage. Jake Waelterman drove in Cole Hardy and Beattie with a double and Reando added the final two runs driving in Robinson and Waelterman. The game was not without some good glove work in the field by Cole Hardy who cut down a runner at home in the second inning as Hardy made a perfect throw to Beattie who made the tag for the put out at the plate. Fresh off their tournament win at North County the JV squad continued to put a good product on the field as the rolled off their fifth win in a row improving to 15-6 on the season and 4-1 in conference play. The Jaguars get back to action Monday for a makeup game as the Marquette Mustangs travel to Seckman for a conference showdown at 4:15.

Game Recap

The Jaguars got off to a great start Saturday morning against Park Hills Central as Blake Horning ran his record to a perfect 5-0 and pitched the Jaguars into the championship game later that evening. Horning would go on to strike out a season high twelve batters as Park Hills really never had a chance against the dominating Horning. Drew Maloney would come in to pitch the seventh for his first appearance on the mound this season promptly striking out the side to end the game. The Jaguars would go on to score sixteen runs with every player contributing something to make sure there was never any doubt as to who would go on to play the final game of the day. Cameron Cummings would go 2-3 with 2 runs scored and a stolen base. Mike Beattie reached base in all six of his plate appearances as he collected two doubles, three RBI’s, a run, and two stolen bases. Nate Robinson contributed an RBI and a run. Jake Waelterman had a base clearing three RBI double. Drew Maloney picked up an RBI. Jordan Clooney had a hit and scored twice and Matt Krause collected two hits, three RBI’s and two runs. Lucas Erdman had an RBI and a run scored. Grant Strikland collected an RBI. Donavan Summers reached on a walk, stole a base, and scored. Birthday boy Zack Blunt and Cole Hardy both reached on a walk and scored. It was a great offensive output from the Jaguars but they were only getting warmed up as they trounced North County in the championship game later that evening.

Game Recap

After spotting the Festus Tigers seven runs, six that were unearned, to start the Friday evening contest, Donovan Summers came into the game in the second inning and promptly stopped the bleeding as he threw four shutout innings earning his first victory of the season striking out five in the process. Jordan Clooney came in to pick up the four out save as the Jaguars came back in a huge way to get the victory. The Jaguars started chipping away in the second inning as Jake Waelterman (2-3, 3 Runs) started the inning off with a double and was driven in by Drew Maloney (2-3, 5 RBI’s, 3 Runs) on a fielder’s choice. Clayton Busken (1-3, 3 RBI’s) drove in Maloney giving the JV Jaguars some life. The third and fourth inning both brought five runs each for the Jaguars. In the third inning Nate Robinson (2-4, 2 Runs) started the rally with two outs as he reached on a base hit. Robinson was driven in by Steven Reado (1-3, 2 RBI’s, 2 Runs) as a he drilled a double to left center. Maloney followed with a double of his own driving in Reando. Mike Beattie (3-4, 2 RBI’s, 2 Runs) followed with a single and Zack Blunt who was running for Beattie rounded out the scoring in the third inning. The fourth inning started again by a Robinson single as he scored on a sac fly by Maloney. Beattie drove in a run in the inning and Busken drove in two to round out the scoring in the fourth. The Jaguars would put one more run on the board in an odd fashion as Drew Maloney hit a drive to center field that kept traveling as the center fielder made a diving play on the ball and appeared to catch it, an out call was never signaled however as Maloney kept running and ended up with a inside the park homerun on the play. The game was delayed for several minutes as the Festus coach argued the call on the field but the call was upheld and the homerun counted giving Clooney and the Jaguars a little breathing room in the seventh. The win helped the Jaguars to improve to 12-6 overall and started off a very positive weekend for the JV squad as they would go on to take two games on Saturday to win the North County Tournament for the second time in two years.

Game Recap

The JV Jaguars waited out the Varsity’s 12-3 pounding of the over-matched Northwest Lions and were able to squeeze in a 6-2 win of their own as the JV teams ran out of daylight in the bottom of the fifth. The Jaguars were able to hold off the only threat of the game in the top of the fifth as Grant Strickland (1-0, Save) pitched a complete game striking out four while enjoying some crafty glove work behind him. Cole Hardy was the man of the night with two nifty plays at second base. In the the second inning Cole ran down a looping fly ball in the middle of the outfield and then threw to first for a double play. Hardy saved the best for last however as he made a game saving leaping grab to end the game in the fifth leaving two runners stranded on the bases. Strickland got some help behind the plate as well with Jordan Clooney gunning down a runner at second to end the third inning. The Jaguars started out the scoring in the bottom of the first as Cameron Cummings reached on an error, stole second base, and scored on a base hit by Nate Robinson. Robinson later scored on a fielder’s choice by Steven Reando. Jordan Clooney led of the second inning with an infield hit. Clooney scored on a liner by Cole Hardy who then stole second and scored on an RBI double by Cummings. Cummings scored on Robinson’s single and Robinson scored on a base hit by Jake Waelterman. The Jaguars improved to 11-6 overall and 4-1 in conference play. The JV squad travels to Festus today for a 4:15 make up game that was rained out Wednesday.

Game Recap

The Jaguars ran into a buzz-saw on the mound as the Lafayette Lancers held the Seckman bats in check all day limiting the Jaguars to one run in a conference game that had the Jaguars traveling to the old haunts of Ryan Howard and David Freese. It was hard not to be reminded of the current major leaguers as their names and accomplishments are proudly listed on the scoreboard for all to see. The Jaguars did scratch and claw their way to an early lead as Clayton Busken lead off by reaching on a strikeout that reached the backstop. Cameron Cummings bunted him to second and he advanced to third by a smash right back at the pitcher by Nate Robinson. Busken scored the only run by the Jaguars on a wild pitch as the Lafayette hurler then settled in for the evening. Cameron Cummings (2-2) kept the JV squad in the game with three innings of work striking out four in the process. The bright spot of the day came from the arm of Donovan Summers who entered the one-sided contest in the fourth inning pitching three efficient innings while striking out seven, keeping the Jaguars within striking distance. The loss dropped the JV Jaguars to 10-6 overall on the season and brought their conference record to 3-1. The Jaguars will not have time to dwell on yesterday’s outcome as they welcome back former Seckman baseball player and coach Austin Bergert, taking on the Festus Tigers today at 4:15.

Game Recap

The JV Jaguars won in exciting fashion Friday against the crosstown district rival Fox Warriors. On a beautiful day when most of the sporting action was taking place at Seckman High School the JV squad made the most of a Fox error in the 7th to come from behind and take down the Warriors on their home field. Jake Waelterman pitched an effective 4 1/3 innings giving up two runs, striking out four and keeping the Jaguars in the game. Lucas Erdman (2-0) was credited with the win after entering the game with a bases loaded one out situation allowing only one inherited run to score. Erdman went on to pitch 1 2/3 innings and struck out two to gain the win. Grant Strickland was used for the seventh and earned the save by retiring the three batters that he faced. The Jaguars were solid in the field all day but perhaps the game saving play came in the fourth inning as Nate Robinson squashed a potential run by fully extending on a suicide squeeze play, diving to catch the bunt on a fly, and then throwing to third to complete the double play. The scoring started for the Jaguars in the third inning as Steven Reando scored Waelterman who had reached on an error. The Jaguars stayed off the board until the bottom of the seventh when the Jaguars, down to their last out mounted an emotional rally when Nate Robinson reached on a base hit down the third base line. Jake Waelterman who had re-entered the game drove a ball deep to left field that reached the fence as Robinson raced around the bases to score the tying run beating the throw to the plate. Waelterman’s triple set up the winning run as Steven Reando laced a ball to third and reached on an errant throw. The win was a signature win for the club as they continued to fight all the way until the last out. The game itself was filled with excitement as both teams could feel the weight of the rivalry. With the win Seckman improves to 10-5 overall and 3-0 in conference play. The JV Jaguars head to Lafayette to take on the Lancers in a conference showdown Tuesday at 4:15.

Game Recap

The JV Jaguars got back to their winning ways lead by another complete game gem by Blake Horning as he kept the Flyers in the hangar, striking out five during his seven strong innings of work and improving to 4-0 on the season. The Flyers stayed grounded as Horning scattered five hits keeping them off balance, and did not allow a runner to third base the entire game. The Jaguars got on the board early as they scored two in the first inning as Clayton Busken (2-4, RBI, Run) reached on a base hit with a throwing error allowing him to advance to second. Busken scored when Jake Waelterman reached on an error. Steven Reando plated Waelterman with an RBI single. The Jaguars scored again in the second inning as Donovan Summers (2-3 Run, SB) lead off the inning with a base hit and later scored on an RBI single from Busken. The JV squad added another run in the fifth inning as Zack Blunt (SB) who was running for Jordan Clooney (1-3, Run) was balked home after Cole Hardy reached on a single. It was a beautiful day for baseball as the JV Jaguars improved to 9-5 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The Jaguars will enjoy a couple days off before traveling to the cross-town district rival Fox Warriors for a Friday conference showdown at 4:15.
